I had a client, a while back, who came into the office for a issue, a pretty serious one having to do with his experience of the Katrina disaster. Without going into very much detail of his personal story, he gave me permission to relate a learning that his derived from this experience and he is hoping that telling this story will help others “GET BACK INTO THE GAME OF LIFE”
On the morning of Monday, August 29, Hurricane Katrina hit just outside of New Orleans. 80% of the city, large tracts of neighboringparishesbecame flooded, and the floodwaters lingered for weeks. I do not need to be more graphic, you can always go watch YouTube but even that will not give you an accurate snapshot of the sheer destruction and death that was all around.
The part of the story, that’s valuable, is my client and his wife survived and moved to Dallas a couple of years ago. The problem that brought my client in was the fact that almost 2 years and a few months after moving to the Big “D” they still had not unpacked all their boxes of belongings. Boxes where sitting everywhere. In the kitchen, in the Dinning room, even in the bedroom the boxes were still there waiting to be unpacked. A couple of sessions later the house is unpacked and they are getting back to living. They now understand that Katrina wasn’t a defining moment but merely a detour in their path together.
This brings me to me point of this blog… what was it that sidelined or detoured you from your path? Think about that for a second or two… and we’ll come back to that thought.
When I started thinking about my original path I got a lot of information at first and then… clarity.
Here’s the short version. My plan was I would have a large animal veterinary clinic (horse, cows, etc) with a horseshoeing school next door. The Clinic would be out in the country, close to metropolitan area, for large animals and all the everyday problems, illness and dis-ease that are associated or occurs with them.
The horseshoeing school would teach students all they needed to know about making and shoeing horses and running a business. Couple of weekends per month people could bring their horses out to be shod by the students and all I would charge them for would be the cost of materials. The customers would get custom-made horseshoes for their animals and the students would get all the experience they would need so when they began their own businesses they would have had the time and practice needed to excel.
NOW…fast forward 35 years… I have a clinic that I see large animals (humans) for all the everyday problems, illness and dis-ease that is associated or occurs with them. And I ‘m opening an additional clinic and hypnosis school in McKinney, TX next year. And Guess what? It’s out in the country close to a metropolitan area. I still plan on having people bring themselves or other large animals out a couple of weekends per month and all I will charge is for the materials.
Now to the untrained eye… this may seem far and away from my original goal but to the unconscious mind I’m right on target. Large animals are large animals. Schools are schools. So according to my unconscious mind, I’m right on track. What threw my conscious mind off was when I left college without finishing veterinary school. I spent plenty of time beating myself up for leaving school… I eventually went back and finished opened as hypnosis clinic but I still didn’t get it. I get it now… I was always on track… I just didn’t know it at time.
So what is it that threw you off? Was it some illness? Or Dis-ease? Were you addicted to a substance? Or a relationship? Did some well-meaning person tell you were a piece of garbage just because your dream was taking a little longer that they thought it should?
Right now think about your original path? Did you want to have a job? Did want to see the world? Did you want to be married with children? with a small house in the country… with a picket fence? Did you want to something that would change the world? Just think about that…How close are you? I’ll bet you’re closer than you think.
There are no rules about how long it takes to succeed at your path or what direction your path will take until it arrives at it’s appointed location. When you said you wanted to be married did you specifically say “I only want to be married once?” Or did you just say “married”? Did you specify a specific job or career or did you just say “a career”. What about your health? Did you say you wanted all of the above AND YOU WANTED TO BE HEALTHY? Or did you just say “I WANT THIS”? When I was thinking about my path I never said “ I want to make a lot of money before during and after this process is completed (yeah, I put than one in the plan)
Your unconscious mind is a powerful tool but it’s a simple tool that doesn’t ask questions… it just follows commands. If you want to get back on your path, change your path or update the path all you need to do is give your unconscious some direction. Be as specific as possible and once that plan is in place just let your unconscious guide you to your destination. Who knows you might even enjoy the ride?
